People get arrested for some crazy things anymore, and while I’ve heard of some outlandish stories, this one just has to come close to the top of the list. A 17-year-old from Brooklyn was recently arrested after he allegedly threatened police with emojis. Go ahead and read back over that last sentence again. Emojis – you know, those cute, colorful, cartoony faces, etc. you send with your texts to make sure you get the right message across? Well, it turns out they can also get you in quite a bit of trouble if used in a not-so-nice manner, as the aforementioned teenager is now learning. Just how can a person use an emoji wrong? Well, they can start by putting an emoji of a police officer next to several emojis of guns pointing directly at said officer’s head, and then plastering the pictures on a Facebook page where the police just happen to see them.
In a day and age where it seems like tension is already high wherever the police are concerned, the last thing anyone should do is post any kind of picture (especially on social media) where it could be taken as threatening members of the police force. In the case of the above photo, I’m not sure how it could be taken as anything else.
The teen’s lawyer, of course, says that his client meant no harm with the posting. It turns out that his client has also apparently been arrested some 12 other times in his 17 short years on this earth. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!
